Question: Can anyone please offer any information on the origin of the WORD/title of "Tashi"? I have an understanding of the ranking/"qualifications" side. I am interested in the etymology of the word itself.

Thank-you, in advance.

David -

Tashi is a title of "Expert". Minimum rank 3rd Dan who has proven the ability to teach practical methods and basic techniques. He has shown his dedication to Budo through long-term teaching experience. He must have some type of publication is required - it can be thought of as very similar to a Graduate Degree. However, all belts within this category do not necessarily receive the title - it is conferred upon you by others.

The kanji should be:

This means "accomplished" and can be pronounced: Ta-chi (hey - we're American's, we can spell it wrong - because we don't know any better).
