Forrester sensei, I am intriqued by language in general. I get started in a few over the years and move on. Of course the Japanese sticks, as it is part of our karate. I learned just enough to be able to get around in Okinawan (and still got lost on one's answer to my question). Douzo yukkuri hanashite kudasai.

One question in how we use the terminology to mean 'kick'. What is the usage differing between 'geri' and 'keri'. Same with punch or strike, 'tsuki' or 'zuki'. I may have just answered my own question with the last one.

Darroll - Dai in essence means "big" while Sho in essence means "small". There can also be subtle variances in the meaning.
Dai - Big, Large, Great
Sho - Small, Minor, Little

Hope that helped - -

Mr. Forrester, I'm very interested in becoming more fluent in Japanese language (reading & writing). I also have a passion for the culture, customs and traditions. What would you suggest I do to accomplish a competant level?
