Funny you mention that Kraig. Often I remember #9 as the one with "a bunch of punches". Nowadays, there is no telling what belongs, what goes, what stays and what has been forgotten (whether for good reason or bad). One of the funnies about being in…

My thoughts and prayers go out to not only his family, but also to his immediate students who looked up to him on a daily if not weekly basis. I am still stuned, though I realized he was fighting this foe from within for a while. My hopes were tha h…

I really admire your artwork of the phoenix and dragon hanging on the wall. Wow, if I can only get my hands on some pieces like that. Truly beautiful.

If anyone has had the wonderful opportunity to train under Benny Urquidez, they have had the best of kickboxing history. I had that opportunity in a number of seminars in 1979 and 1980. He certainly looks very much 'alive and kickin' in this photo!

I thought that was a familiar face. Good to see Freddy Roach in a photo posted on Warrior Pages. It is amazing with what he has done to train 'Pacman' to be the fierce fighter he is today! Maayo Kaayo! Laban!

I really like this response and can't help imagining it in my mind. You hit the nail on the head about the intention and motivation behind a lot of these McDojos. Unfortunately, I think we have run out of uninhabitted islands. Especially ones of suf…

I see the development of karate and other martial arts liken to that of a tree. Where the initial concept of arts flourished is represented by the roots. This would be the general categories of Okinawan-te, Kendo, Jui-jutsu, and the likes. As the ro…

Hi Bart sensei, I was just viewing some of the videos in the store section and caught your video of Shirotaro no kun (White barrel staff form). Well done! I did not know who else does this form until I saw it printed on the video page. I see it as b…

Great vidoes! Your Taezu execution and waza are bascially the same as taught by my strain of Shorei practioners. Except on first review we leave out the nukite to the eyes. Good stuff, Great presentation! Thank you. John S. Soltis

Greetings, Mr. Wagner, and thank you for your kind email. I have known your name for many years, and it's a pleasure to put a face with the name and read your excellent vitae. Although we've never met, our sensei lineage is nearly identical, and I suspect we've had many similar experiences due to that fact. In my youth, I travelled to Ashville several times, and I knew Mr. Matthews when I was a boy and later in my capacity as a Headquarters Staff Instructor for Mr. Trias. Of course, we were always keen to receive a lesson from Mr. Matthews when he passed through Phoenix. Warm regards, Izatt.

Hi Sensei Wagner! Thanks again for the information on Taezu #11 - it will be great to share this with the Shuri-Ryu group - I'm sure everyone will be interested in learning the "lost" Taezu. Now that I know you are here - I'll make sure I converse with you more often.
